Brookline Apartment Unit Destroyed After Catching Fire: Report

The flames broke out during early morning hours.

BROOKLINE, MA — One person was taken to the hospital in the aftermath of an apartment fire that broke out in Brookline Village, according to a report from NBC 10 Boston.

Firefighters responded to the three-alarm blaze on 55 Village Way at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 19 to find heavy smoke and flames emanating from the fifth floor of the six-story building. The resident and a pet dog are now displaced, as the flames caused significant damage to the unit. The pair were reportedly rescued from the outdoor balcony of the apartment by the fire department. Five nearby units sustained water damage from the extinguishing efforts. Boston and Cambridge were among neighboring communities whose fire departments provided mutual aid.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
