<p>It’s a night of whimsy with music inspired by games. In Mozart’s <em>Musikalisches Würfelspiel</em>, dice rolls from our audience will determine the structure of the piece! We’ll dust off our old, battery powered, primary colored Simon game to perform Nicole Lizée’s <em>Simon Interlude</em> and play selections from György Kurtág’s collection of <em>Játékok</em> or quite literally “games” in Hungarian. Satie’s humorous and eccentric pieces about sports were conceived for a “haute couture artist's book" while Mozart’s iconic <em>Kegelstatt Trio</em> was written while lawn bowling! Winsor is excited to welcome composer and soprano <strong>Kate Soper </strong>to perform her piece <em>Chutes and Ladders,</em> featuring text by Virgil, diary entries, Markov chains, and board game rules<em>. </em>The New Yorker describes Kate as "one of the great originals of her generation.”</p>

<p>Passion, politics, and pulse-pounding rhythm collide! Martín Palmeri’s “<i>Misatango”</i> electrifies the Latin Mass with fiery Argentinian “new tango,” blending chorus, bandoneón, and strings in a bold, emotional ride that has energized audiences on several continents. By embedding tango’s harmonic language, rhythms, and melodic designs in the orchestra, Palmeri frees the chorus to simply “sing the Mass”, plunging the audience into a world of uplifting emotions, passion, and syncopation.</p>
<p>Opening the concert is <i>Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah</i> by Alberto Ginastera, an intense work written in exile in 1946. Setting Latin texts from the Book of Lamentations and with dissonant harmonies, jagged rhythms, and stark contrasts, Ginasteri’s music expresses profound sorrow and spiritual desolation.</p>
<p>Adding to the verve of the Latin American program are scintillating dance performances by Boston-based tangueros, curated by bandoneonist Alex Roitman and accompanied by a tango instrumental ensemble.
