Brookline Post Office Closed Due To Fire Damage
The USPS does not know how long the closure will last.
BROOKLINE, MA — A local post office is closed until further notice after a fire in the building, according to the United States Postal Service.
The Brookline Village Post Office is located on the ground floor of the building on 207 Washington St. The location reportedly sustained damage after the unit above caught fire that was caused by an animal tank heating lamp malfunction. The Brookline Fire Department said that the fire primarily damaged the wood floor of the unit, and that it had to be cut open to ensure the damage did not extend further. In addition, the entire building has an electrical wiring issue.
The USPS is recommending residents use the post office on 1295 Beacon St. in Coolidge Corner while its counterpart remains closed. The Brookline Village Post Office has been on Washington Street for more than 90 years.
