Brookline Golf Clips Natick

Brookline defeats Natick 57-51 in third match of the year.

The Brookline boy's golf team squeaked out a 57-51 win over Natick at Sassamon Trace Golf Course on Monday afternoon.

The Warriors got a big contribution from Jim Wronoski, who fired a 1-over par 33, from the bottom of the rotation, while Brian Corcoran and Aidan Bayer both shot a 2-over 34 to help secure key points in the match.

It wasn't the cleanest of rounds across the board, according to head coach Bill Camelio, but the Warriors did manage to find the win column after taking a tough loss in their previous match against Newton North.

"We can't find the right combinations right now," said Camelio, whose team sits at 2-1 on the season. "I guess that's the coach's job right now. These kids can play a little bit but we just haven't found the right mix and the right combination yet."

The golfers had to battle tough winds and a lurking thunderstorm at Natick's home course. The course played 2,383 yards and featured five par-3's, but a tough win on a few holes made for some tricky distance control.

The Warriors also had to overcome a hot round from Natick's No. 1 player, Carter Worthington. Worthington defeated Corcoran 4-up in their match play and consistently used the soft greens to his advantage as he had numerous birdie putts inside of 15 feet.

Worthington was the low medalist with a 1-under par 31 on the afternoon.

Camelio was happy to see a win out of his group even when they weren't having their best day, and he said the next few matches will show how well his team does this season.

"We are going to know something about this team," said Camelio, whose squad plays Wellesley and Needham this week. "I just have to come up with the right combinations."
