Brookline Golf Gets Complete Team Win

Brookline defeated Norwood, 72.5-35.5, on Monday.

Brookline's head golf coach Bill Camelio was looking for a little more consistency out of his squad from top to bottom, and he got just that in the Warriors 72.5-35.5 win over Norwood at Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course on Monday afternoon.

The Warriors won three matches by a double-digit margin and had four players break 40 on a perfect day for golf, weather wise.

"Three out of the four groups played the way they should play on this golf course," Camelio said. "I wanted to see our guys do what they are supposed to do at Putterham. These kids were weaned on this golf course and we've got to beat people."

Brookline struggled last week to a 1-2 record and now sit at 3-3 on the season. Brian Corcoran was the low medalist with a 1-under 35. Corcoran played at the No. 2 position after spending the early part of the season as the teams top player.

"I did intentionally put Brian down a little bit to take the pressure off of him," said Camelio. "The kid knows he has a reputation and he's supposed to shoot 35 every time and that's not going to happen."

Corcoran birdied the seventh hole and made a nice up-and-down on 18 after spraying his iron shot a little bit left.

"Playing No. 2 is a little bit different because the team doesn't expect you to lead as much, so I guess there is a little bit of added pressure," said Corcoran. "I think after today I'll be No. 1 again. … But I don't care where I play as long as we win."

Corcoran's playing partner, Aiden Bayer, shot a 2-over 38 to help score a 20-7 win over their Norwood counterparts. James Lononoski, who took over at the No. 1 spot, teamed with Jacob Dana to score another 20-7 match victory for Brookline.

Geoff Hotchkins went for a 1-over 37 and with his partner, Geoff Hotchkins, took a 19-8 victory.

The goal for Camelio and the rest of his team is to finish up with a 3-0 record for this week's matches. Brookline plays Braintree at Putterham on Tuesday and travels to Walpole on Thursday.
