Brookline Golf Keeps Rolling

All-around effort keeps the win streak alive.

Even with the weather showing off its downward temperatures, the Brookline High boy's golf team stayed hot with a 85-23 dismantling of Dedham on Monday at Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course.

The Warriors have now won six matches in a row, battling high winds, cool temperatures and a course that was nearly under water to do it.

Jack Corcoran was low medalist with a 3-under 36. John Lipshutz fired an even par 36 and No. 1 player Brian Corcoran came in with a 1-over par 37.

The season started off with some so-so rounds at Putterham, but head coach Bill Camelio is starting to see his team play extremely well at a course that the players should know the ins-and-outs of.

"They are starting to do what they are supposed to do at home," said Camelio. "Before they would back off when they would get a big lead, but now they are playing much better."

The conditions were not conducive for scoring as the temperature were in the 50s and there was a raw, cool feeling on the golf course. But Brookline managed to get three scores below 40 and John Wronowski was very close with a 43 out of the No. 2 position.

"The wind felt like it was in our face on every hole," said Brian Corcoran. "But we had to make the best of it and play our game."

The Warriors are now 8-3 on the season and are an impressive 8-1 in the Bay State Conference. Both Corcoran brothers and Wronowski will be playing in the Bay State tournament on Wednesday, and on Thursday the Warriors face off against Wellesley, the team that beat the Warriors handedly earlier in the season.
