Brookline Holds First 'Town Open' Golf Tournament
Nearly 100 golfers, including the entire Brookline High School varsity team and some women's groups, took to the field this weekend.
BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline's municipal golf course hosted its first Brookline Town Open golf tournament, a locally focused championship, complete with golf pros awarding the best male and female players at the end of the day Saturday, Sept. 22.
The idea was simply to bring the community together for a day of golf and to recognize the best players in Brookline, according to organizer and Head Golf Professional at the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course Tom Ellis.
The tournament had nine different division winners who went home with nickel-plated sporting cup trophies and gift cards to the golf course.

Some 87 players of all age groups took to the field, including the entire Brookline High School varsity golf team, some junior varsity players, and men's and women's groups from the Robert T. Lynch Golf Course.

"The event is a great opportunity to bring the community out to the golf course," said Ellis who called the event a success.
And that included local businesses this go round. Audi Brookline showcased their vehicles, one of which, was used for a Hole-in-One Contest on our 17th hole. VineRipe Grill catered the food with an breakfast and BBQ on the patio following play.
In order to fund the event, the course officials charged an entry fee of $75 which included golf fees, cart fees, range balls, breakfast, lunch and prizes.
"The feedback received on the value of the event, the customer service, the golf course conditions and the quality of the food was incredible," Ellis told Patch.
Will there be more in the future? "Most definitely, we already have players asking about next year’s tournament. We originally expected around 40 players this year and had a total of 87," said Ellis.
Look for a tournament next fall.
