Brookline Opens Cooling Locations Amid Record Heat In MA
This comes as "extreme heat" is expected to feel like more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas.
BROOKLINE, MA — The town has opened several cooling locations this week as high temperatures and dangerous heat continue across much of Massachusetts.
Residents can cool off at all Public Library of Brookline locations, the Brookline Senior Center and the Evelyn Kirrane Aquatics Center indoor pool during regular hours on Wednesday and Thursday. Additional cooling locations and extended hours will be available Friday and Saturday ahead of the Independence Day holiday.
The National Weather Service has warned of dangerous heat across much of the state this week, with heat index values expected to exceed 100 degrees in some areas. The hot and humid conditions are expected to continue through Thursday before temperatures begin to ease heading into the holiday weekend.

Cooling centers will be open at the following times and locations:
Brookline Senior Center (93 Winchester St.)

- Wednesday, July 1: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Thursday, July 2: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday, July 3: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, July 4: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Public Library of Brookline
- Brookline Village Library (361 Washington St.)
- Coolidge Corner Library (31 Pleasant St.)
- Putterham Library (959 West Roxbury Parkway, Chestnut Hill)
- All three library locations will be available during their regular operating hours on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, the Putterham Library Community Room will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a cooling center.
Evelyn Kirrane Aquatics Center (60 Tappan St.)
- Wednesday and Thursday: Indoor pool available during non-programmed hours.
- Friday: Dive well and shallow pool open from noon to 4 p.m. with free admission for all Brookline residents.
- Saturday: Closed.
Florida Ruffin Ridley School (345 Harvard St.)
- Friday, July 3: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, July 4: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
