Staff Pick: February release "The Dead" is a breath of fresh air for the true old-school zombie film fan. Excellent visual effects and incorporation of the African setting add up to an overall grittiness and realism, that harkens back to work of zombie pioneers Fulci and Romero. The pace of the film (which is about as slow as its zombies) is sure to disappoint those accustomed to the current fast-zombie trend, but the stagnancy only adds to the suspense. It is a film that stands alone in its genre and is certainly worth a watch.
