Brookline's Fastest Men And Women: Boston Marathon 2018

Wondering just how fast Brookline residents are?

BROOKLINE, MA — Some 130 people were signed up to run the Boston Marathon this year. But how'd they do in this crazy weather? They're all heroes in our book, but the top finishers deserve a little extra recognition. A 22-year old named Matthew Herzig was the fastest man in Brookline. Incidentally, he was also the second fastest man in the state.

Herzig came in 12th place overall in the Boston Marathon with an official time of 2:27:55. For reference that's an average pace of 5:39 per mile. That's for 26.2 miles, mind you. Just think about that for a second.

The fastest woman was the co-owner of Washington Square's Wellness in Motion Amanda Nurse (her husband, incidentally was the second fastest Brookline man). She ran that soggy race in just over 3 hours. And did we mention that she has a baby that is less than a year old? Her pace per mile was 7:04.
