Calling all Newbury College Writers

You could have the chance to write for The New York Times

The Edit, a New York Times newsletter, was looking for five college students or recent graduates to join their writing team, but the search is not over yet.

This year, The Edit wanted five new contributors to add to their writing team. Any current college student or recent grad had until February 2, 2018 to complete the application to become one of the five writers. Due to the large quantity of applications, within a couple of months, the newsletter is going to re-launch.

The Director of Communications at The NY Times, Ari Bevacqua, said “We’ve heard from thousands of students and recent grads who were interested in contributing to The Edit this year.”

The newsletter focuses on issues and topics pertaining to college students. "Having students actual voices is a great idea when writing on the topic of student issues,” said Brian MacAuley, a professor of communications at Newbury College.

Each contributor that was chosen will write for The Edit several times throughout the year, while being paid. "Being associated with The NY Times looks great on a resume. It is considered a top newspaper with high credibility, if you get your name on that, you will do pretty well,” MacAuley said. When the newsletter re-launches, many students will get another chance to become a writer for The Edit.
