Census 2020: Brookline's Population Has Grown By 7.6% In 10 Years

According to U.S. Census data released last week, the number of residents in the town has grown from 58,732 to 63,191.

BROOKLINE, MA — The Town of Brookline has added about 4,459 residents over the last ten years, according to the 2020 U.S. Census data released last week.

The data shows that Brookline's population grew by 7.6% from 2010 to 2020, with a population of 58,732 people ten years ago and 63,191 as of April 1, 2020.

Norfolk County as a whole experienced a slightly higher population growth of 8.2%, adding 55,131 residents to reach a total of 725,981, and Massachusetts' growth was slightly lower at 7.4%, adding about 500,000 residents for a total of 7,029,917.

Last week's 2020 Census data is still somewhat preliminary, with the bureau set to release data on undercounts and overcounts next year. The count also took place amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which may have affected response rates.
