Ethan Hawke Comes To Brookline's Coolidge Corner To Show 'Blaze'

Actor, Director Ethan Hawke was in town to talk about his newest film about an unsung songwriting legend of the Texas Outlaw Music movement.

BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline's Coolidge Corner Theatre had another famous face walk the across the stage recently. Four-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke showed up in Brookline for opening night of his latest film as a director, "Blaze." Hawke was slated to introduce the film and then open it up for Q&As following all shows Friday.

Three of the shows were sold out pretty quick. But as of 5 p.m. Friday, the 9:55 p.m. show still had tickets available.

The movie is a re imagining of the life and times of Blaze Foley, an unsung songwriting legend of the Texas Outlaw Music movement.

"All over the country there are artists of the first order working incredibly hard," said Hawke Friday afternoon on Boston Public Radio during an interview with Jim Braude and Margery Eagan. "And they can't find a place in the marketplace. You have to find your own grace and integrity within yourself and believe in it. A lot of ways to me is this big 6'5 Arkansas hero of that idea. The idea that there's something larger going on than just the accumulation of wealth. "

Hawke is a Tony and four-time Academy Award nominated actor and writer whose diverse career as a novelist, actor, director, and screenwriter spans more than three decades. Hawke directed, wrote and produced the movie. Blaze and Juliet, Naked marked Hawke’s 12th and 13th films to screen at the Sundance Film Festival, with Blaze being the first time he attended as a director.
