Brookline Idol Voice Competition

Eligibility: Participants must be 12-18 years old, not yet in college. Open to the teen community in Brookline and beyond.

Repertoire: Participants will sing one piece of their choice in Classical/Broadway or Contemporary/Jazz divisions. Participants may compete in both divisions, but will be advanced in only one. Participants may sing any repertoire but in order to advance they must have a usable copy of the accompaniment for the pianist (See Round 2).

Round 1: Participants sing up to 2 minutes of their selection, unaccompanied. Then they may attend any of the workshops until Round 1 results are announced.

Round 2 (Semi-finals): In Round 2 each participant who advances will receive a free coaching by a member of the BMS faculty. Round 2 is open to the public and coachings will take place in the Bakalar Recital Hall. Those who advance to Round 2 must provide a piano score or lead sheet for their song, copied double-sided with a simple way to deal with repeats in a three-ring binder, for the accompanist. If in doubt, plan to attend our Audition Binder Workshop during Round 1.

Round 3 (Finals):  Finalists will perform their entire selection before the audience with pianist Bret Silverman; the winners will be chosen by our invited judges, who are not affiliated with Brookline Music School.
