Fmr. U.S. Under Secretary of State Endorses Dr. Natalia Linos
Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns praised Dr. Linos as the best candidate to lead on global crises including COVID-19 and climate change.
Brookline, MA - On Tuesday, August 11, Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns announced his endorsement of Dr. Natalia Linos in her bid to represent Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District. Amb. Burns served as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs from 2005 to 2008, former U.S. Ambassador to NATO from 2001 to 2005, and U.S. Ambassador to Greece from 1997-2001. Amb. Burns has served in the administrations of five U.S. presidents. He also grew up in Wellesley and graduated from Wellesley High School and Boston College.
“From my decades-long experience in Washington, I’ve seen what it takes to run for Congress and to serve successfully. Natalia has the experience in public service, working as a senior official at the United Nations and in New York City, and the temperament needed to drive progress. We have too few members of Congress who understand science. She’s data-driven and a true expert on the key subject of our time, epidemiology. She’s ready to serve the Fourth District, the District where I grew up, in Washington and I’m proud to support her,” said Ambassador Burns.
“The pandemic is the greatest crisis the United States is facing and it is not going to end any time soon. We need our elected representatives to be able to understand the complexity of these issues, how to strengthen public health here in the United States, and how to work with other countries in the search for a vaccine, and make sure the vaccine is distributed equitably. Natalia has that experience.”

“Natalia also distinguishes herself among the other candidates in that she has worked with governments to fight climate change. There are few issues that I would say are existential threats to the U.S. and to the world, and climate change is one of them. She understands the need to act boldly and in partnership with other countries. And she is the only candidate with the experience doing that. The people of the Fourth and all Americans will benefit from having Natalia in Congress.”
On Friday, August 7, Burns and Linos engaged in a Global Leadership Town Hall where they discussed the critical importance of the U.S. rejoining the Paris Climate Accord, rejected President Trump’s isolationist approach to COVID-19 vaccine distribution, and highlighted the importance of U.S. leadership on climate and health to the prosperity of the Fourth District.
