Former Brookline Resident Part of Upcoming 'Survivor' Cast
Hannah Shapiro is one of 20 contestants on this fall's "Millennials vs. Gen X" season.

BROOKLINE, MA – Fans in Brookline of the long-running reality show "Survivor" will have the opportunity to cheer on one of their own this fall, as a former resident is among the 20 contestants of the upcoming season.
Hannah Shapiro, who currently resides in West Hollywood, CA, braved the Mamanuca Islands of Fiji for Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X. The 33rd season of the show was filmed last spring, and, as the name implies, pits castaways from Generation X against those from the current generation.
The 24-year-old told CBS that competing on "Survivor" fulfills a lifelong dream.

"I've been a fan of 'Survivor since' I was 14," her bio states. "My friend and I would throw 'Survivor' parties where we would eat worms and dirt (aka gummy worms and Oreos), while the castaways starved, and fancy food when they won Reward challenges. Simply stated, being a 'Survivor' contestant has been a dream of mine forever. Plus, I like the idea that 14-year-old me would find 24-year-old me cool."
The show will start with two tribes with 10 contestants each. Generation X will be in the Takali Tribe, while the Millennials will join the Vanua Tribe. Shapiro, who starts the show with the Millennials, takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to representing her generation.

"Being a Millennial means being hip, cool, nifty and totally rad," she said. "Go young people!"
When it comes to winning, Shapiro remains good-humored about her chances of "surviving" the show.
"I probably won't," she said. "I've tripped walking down a sidewalk, so imagine that person in the wilderness."
The new season of "Survivor" premieres Wednesday, Sep. 21 at 8 p.m.
