Frugal Fam Looks To Autumn

Summer is such a goody bag of fun activities and Jamaica Plain and Brookline still have some fantastic frugal gems to take advantage of. But in this week's Frugal Fam, we begin to look towards the awesome autumn bargains too!

Deal: The smallest Frugal Fam boys and girls love dreaming up stories and fanciful tales of faeries, dragons, spacepeople and so much more.  Treat your young kids to a day of teeny magical homes! For only $5, families are invited to come to in Brookline and hear the popular children’s story “Fairy Houses” by Tracy Kane. Then everyone will be invited to build their own fairy homes. Participants are encouraged to bring natural materials to use for their fairy houses and children are welcome to come in costume to add to the feeling of enchantment. Register through the .

Deal: In every Frugal Fam there is at least one member who is absolutely batty about Halloween. You know the kid (or the parent!)  They start planning out their costume in July and plan out the trick-or-treating route in August. For those early Halloweenies, we have the at the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course. For Brookline families, the cost of this fun ride is only $10 and it travels through the gauntlet of villains, goblins, and ghosts in the Haunted Graveyard.
Pre-registration is required through the Brookline Recreation Department and space is limited.

Free Movies -

Deal: The older members of the Frugal Family need a break! They’ve been helping out for the entire summer, assisting with camp carpools, taking over some of the childcare responsibilities and still trying to lead normal lives! treats these amazing people with free movies each Tuesday in August.  The events are free, the movies are fascinating and it’s a great chance to kick back and relax as the summer winds down.

The School of Groove - Jamaica Plain

Deal: The School of Groove in Jamaica Plain offers a bevy of musical opportunities at exciting prices. Need to rent a recording studio? They can help. Need private lessons for both adults and kids? Or groups?  They can help. Want to learn how to record and mix like a pro? The School of Groove is the place to visit. For a mere $15 registration fee, you can try a trial private lesson. Now is the time to revisit that dream of learning the piano and make it come to life.

Walk For Animals -

Deal: Here’s an event that combines all sorts of great things – animals,  family, exercise and philanthropy! We all love and all the good they accomplish, so show your support! The MSPCA Walk for Animals will take place on September 11, starting at 11 a.m. at the Boston Common. Bring your pets in costume, or their usual furry finest, and enjoy a day of prizes, food, contests, microchipping, behavior demonstrations, agility, kid's corner activities, crafts, music and more!  All in the name of protecting our frugal animal friends!
