Frugally-Fun Summertime Activities

Even on the hot days, don't blow the bank on pricey nights out or expensive kid activities.

Deal: As part of the Emerald Necklace Converancy's Summer Sundays in the Park Program, a Boston Pops Quartet free concert will be taking place at Olmsted Park at the Allteron Overlook off Pond Avenue, near the intersection with Allerton Street. Bring all the members of your Frugal Family, along with some chairs, a blanket and some yummy snacks to make the evening perfect.

Why Go: There are few things more beautiful than excellent music played outside, as the summer night sky spreads out marbled colors above your head. But it’s even better if the experience is free.

Deal: Booksmith has packed its summer full with great opportunities to meet favorite authors – both local and those from far away. Thursday, July 14, drop by for a free author event with Adam Mansbach and Ricardo Cortes, author and illustrator of the popular book, “Go the [Expletive] to Sleep!”

Why Go: This book reflects the desperation in the hearts of many parents as they try to get their wily toddlers and children to go to bed. Although the book has beautiful illustrations that one would find in a typical children’s book – this is not a story for the kids. So bring your parenting partner in crime and have a good laugh.

Good Through: July 14, 7 P.M.

Deal: When preparing for a new member of your Frugal Family, it’s perfectly normal to have a few questions (or many!). Isis Maternity offers a free Emotional Wellness Drop-In for Expecting Moms.

Why Go: The program offers a safe, confidential place to share with a licensed psychologist thoughts, concerns and questions about pregnancy, the process of childbirth, postpartum-adjustment and many other topics.

Good Through: Weekly on Tuesdays, 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.

Why Go: Although typical summer drinks can be fruity martinis and yummy margaritas, there’s always room for lighter beers.

Good Through:  July 21, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
