A seven-goal, first-half explosion powered the Brookline High girls' soccer team to a 7-0 win over visiting non-conference foe Mount St. Joseph Academy at Skyline Park yesterday. Senior star Mary Elcock and junior standout Elena Ridker each had a pair of strikes, while juniors Beth Lazarus and Lena Capece, and senior Sarah Orloff-Parry also tallied.
The Warriors, who dominated with 19 first-half shots, scored all their goals within the first 30 minutes, on their way to improving their season ledger to 3-2, and equaling their total number of victories from last year, as Mount St. Joseph fell to 0-3.
"You never know with non-league games," Brookline head coach Rob Sprague said. "We try to schedule them competitively, but this was a nice opportunity. Everybody got to play, so everyone was able to get some work in."

Brookline senior backup keeper Betsy Cooley rang up the shutout, while senior starter Jen Chuck rested for tomorrow's big Bay State Conference cross-division tilt against Walpole.
The season outlook is hopeful for the Warriors, who cracked the .500 mark for the first time in the last three years.

"We have a lot of the same girls as last year," Sprague said. "We brought everyone back, and it's a very experienced group. Practices have run smoother. [Our players] all know each other. It's been less work on the fundamentals, and it's more fun that way.
"We'll see what happens," the coach added. "We're hopeful it carries over to our test against Walpole."
