Gov's Councilor Mary Hurley Endorses Mara Dolan For Gov’s Council

Dolan is challenging incumbent Marilyn Petito Devaney in the Democratic primary, which will take place on September 6.

BROOKLINE, MA — Governor’s Councilor Mary Hurley has endorsed public defender Mara Dolan for Governor’s Council, District 3.

Hurley has represented Governor’s Council, District 8 since 2017.

The Governor's Council is made up of eight elected Councilors who vet and vote on judicial nominations, commutations and pardons, and members of the Parole Board. Dolan seeks the Democratic nomination for District 3, which includes parts of Boston, all of Arlington, Brookline, Newton, Waltham, and her hometown of Concord among its 32 cities and towns.

“It is time for a new voice who has the education, background, and experience of Mara Dolan,” Hurley said in a statement. “Mara has been a practicing attorney for 15 years and understands our courts and the complex legal issues we address. The Governor’s Council needs a new voice, and I wholeheartedly endorse Mara Dolan.”

“Councilor Hurley has served with distinction, and as an attorney and former judge has an exceptional depth of understanding of the issues before the Governor’s Council,” Dolan said in a statement. “Her endorsement, based on her experience working as a Councilor, is an honor.”
