MBTA Conductors Help Brookline Police Catch Bike Theft Suspect

A pair of MBTA conductors last week helped Brookline police catch an alleged bike thief.

Robert Ruiz, 21, of 63 Newhall St., Lynn was arrested Tue., Aug. 5 and charged with receiving stolen property.

Police said Ruiz stole a bicycle from an apartment building on Middlesex Road. A tenant called police, saying she heard Ruiz knocking on her door. When she peeked outside, she said she saw Ruiz run down the hallway and take off on a bicycle.

Minutes later, two Green Line conductors saw Ruiz walking between the Reservoir and Chestnut Hill stops. Officers stopped him and placed him under arrest, according to a police report.
