Newbury College Gets a New Director of Dining Services
The executive chef of Newbury College gets promoted to Director of Dining Services.

Newbury College has a new director of Dining Services.
Aramark, the food service that hires all the dining hall officials, and the college came to a mutual decision to promote Alex Fernandez this January of 2018.
As the previous executive chef, he was mainly focused on the food and specific parts of the day. Now as the director, he has big plans.

“I can see the bigger picture and try to plan for better and more exciting things,” he said.
Fernandez is originally from California, but currently lives in Natick, Massachusetts. His skills range from restaurant work to catering to even food work at stadiums for professional sports. He will be replacing the old director Sean Sturgis, and replacing Sturgis will be Laurie Guarino.

“I am looking forward to this new role and making a name for myself within Newbury,” Guarino said.
Fernandez said his new position doesn’t feel much different, only he now will take on the responsibility of giving the Newbury Community a “greater experience.” The best part of his day is seeing and interacting with the students he said, adding that he feels it is really interesting to see how many people you connect with not only through conversation but with food.
When asked about future plans, Fernandez said he preferred to think about the present.
“That way the future isn’t a paved road, but an adventure of the unknown,” he said.
