Pitchers and Hitters on Point in Brookline Victory
Brookline batters collect 12 runs in shutout win over Cambridge.
Adam Blumberg and Scott Cordner combined to toss a no-hitter in a 12-0 five-inning victory for Brookline's Lou Tompkins A-Division All-Star team over Cambridge on Thursday night at Warren Field.
It wasn't the cleanest of no-hitters from Blumberg's end, but he was solid in his four innings of work. He walked three, and had two men reach base on an error and a fielder's choice. But Blumberg was good enough to do his end for the no-hitter.
"I was trying to aim it almost," said Blumberg of his early location problems, who added that he had a perfect game broken up after five innings during the JV season. "Then I started throwing later in the game I started flowing."

With Brookline up 9-0, Cordner came in and had a clean inning in the top of the fifth. He allowed a walk to the second hitter he faced, but he got the next batter to ground into an inning-ending double play to end the threat and secure the no-hitter.
Brookline was coming off a tough 3-2 loss to Parkway on Tuesday and manager John Bucci said it was nice to see the team respond in fashion.

"I said to them Tuesday that all that matter is what happens next," said Bucci, whose team defeated Cambridge 6-1 on July 8. "That's my philosophy. With the amount of talent we have on this team you can't keep it down for that long."
Campbell Narron went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and made a spectacular catch in left field to keep the no-hitter in tact during the top of the fourth. Narron had to use his long frame to stretch out and make the catch on the run.
"It was heading towards the line and I got a good read on it," he said.
Blumberg got things rolling with a RBI single in the first and his steal of second allowed Jonny Gold to trot home with the second run of the inning.
Brookline tacked on four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Erik Dumas had an interesting trip around the bases to score the third run. He reached on an error by the shortstop, stole second, reached third on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
Alex Moses-Gardner, Alex Rozek and Narron delivered with three straight RBI base hits.
The game would be called after Cambridge walked three straight hitters with the bases loaded to score the final three runs of the game.
Brookline will play Framingham on Saturday at Warren Field.
