Report of $1k Gone: On Saturday, Jan. 26, police arrested Lawrence MacFarland, 59, of Needham, and charged him at 1:50 p.m. with larceny from a person. Police said a couple reported that after they took their car to the Scrub a Dub on Harvard Street, an envelope with $1,000 in it under their car mat went missing. Police said they pulled surveillance camera footage and saw an employee of the car wash, later identified as MacFarland, take the floor mats out of the car to clean them, and put the contents of the white envelope into the front pocket of his hoody. When confronted by police they said MacFarland initially denied knowing anything about an envelope under the floor mat. However, when after reviewing the surveillance footage with police, he led the officer to a bathroom only accessible to employees, and showed where he hid the money that was taken from the white envelope. The money was placed behind what appeared to be a water tank located above the toilet seat and was wrapped in a blue wash cloth.

It started with headlights: On Thursday, Jan. 24, police arrested Jacari Drayton, 23, of Roxbury, and charged him at 12:21 a.m. on a litany of traffic violations, including not stopping for a police officer and driving on a suspended license.
Police said they noticed a Chevy sedan headed down Harvard Street without its headlights on blow through a red light at the corner of Harvard and Kent streets. When the officer attempted to pull the car over, police said it kept going and blew through another red light at the intersection of Daves Avenue and Cypress Street. Police said the Chevy blew through at least four stop signs along Tappan Street, before they were able to pull it over on Beacon Street, after chasing it about 1.4 miles at a top speed of approximately 45 mph in an area where the speed limit was 25 mph. According to the police report the driver and a passenger got out of the car at the same time and the officer drew his weapon and asked them to put their hands up. They reportedly complied, but when asked to lay on the ground, the driver, who was later identified as Drayton, refused. After a second officer arrived both men were cooperative for the rest of the interaction, according to police.
