Primary Election Guide For Brookline: What To Know For Sept 4

It's getting closer. Here's a go-to guide to help you come Sept. 4 in Brookline.

BROOKLINE, MA—Tis the season. The state primaries are on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and there are a few contested races as candidates try to get on the Nov. 6 Election Day ballot. You've probably seen signs for State Rep with familiar names Tommy Vitolo and Rebecca Stone around town in yards, yes, this is where the decision will be made for them, as they are both vying for State Rep.Frank Smizek's seat. Here's what you should know about that and the rest of the primaries.

US Congress ( Brookline is part of Congressional District MA-4):

Republicans Geoff Diehl, John Kingston and Beth Lindstrom on the ballot for the Republicans vying for a chance to go up against incumbent Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Independents Shiva Ayyadurai (who has accused Warren of being a "fake" Indian), John Devine and Joshua Ford are also running for state senate.

Democrat Gary J Rucinski is challenging Incumbent Rep. Joseph Kennedy for the nomination.

Governor:

Founder of anti-gay hate group Scott D. Lively, from Springfield, is challenging Governor Charlie Baker for the Republican primary. Jay Gonzalez and Bob Maissie attempting to go for Governor for the Democrats.

And then:

In the 10th and 11th Middlesex, Third District, Nick Carter is going up against 20 year Incumbent Marilyn M Pettitto Devany for the Governor's Council. Recently the two were scheduled to debate on Newton's Cable Access TV station, but Devany, 80, pulled out at the last minute citing a previous conflict.

Democrats in the 15th Norfolk District are being asked to come out to choose between Rebecca Stone and Tommy Vitolo. At this point there is no Republican challenger, so this is the main deal.

Democratic Representative in General Court: 15th District Suffolk: Jeffrey Sanchez and Nika Elugardo are vying for the seat.


When is this again?:

Primaries (all of them) will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4 (that's the day after Labor Day).

Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Is it too late to register to vote for the primary?

Yes.

Wednesday, Aug. 15, was the deadline to register to vote or to change enrollment either to another party or to “unenrolled.” Voters who are unenrolled or enrolled in a political designation other than Democratic, Republican, or Libertarian, may choose a party ballot.
