Ribelle Chef Timothy Maslow Arrested at Canadian Border

The Brookline restauranteur was arrested early Friday morning after he was found with more than 20 pounds of marijuana edibles.

Timothy Maslow, owner and head chef of highly-acclaimed Italian eatery Ribelle, was arrested Friday at the Canadian border with more than 20 pounds of marijuana edibles, The Boston Globe reported.

According to the Globe, Maslow was crossing into the United States from Canada when he was stopped at the Highgate Point of Entry. Authorities searched the car and found 22.5 pounds of THC edibles, a controlled substance and a pipe.

Despite sharing the car with four other people, Maslow claimed the drugs and paraphernalia were all his. He was charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a depressant, stimulant and narcotic.

Maslow pleaded not guilty and was released on $5,000 bail.

Ribelle generated significant buzz upon its 2013 opening as the first solo venture of Maslow, who had previously taken over his father’s Watertown diner, Strip-T’s. A critical darling, it earned a highly-coveted four-star review from the Boston Globe and landed Maslow on one of Food and Wine’s best new chefs lists of last year, according to Boston Eater.

Over the weekend Maslow posted two videos to Instagram, hinting at an uncertain future for his restaurant, the Globe said. In one he set fire to a number of Ribelle business cards with a cryptic caption about starting over, and in another he set ablaze the Globe’s review of his restaurant.
