Tainted Beef at Newton Whole Foods Blamed After 3 Infected with E. Coli

Federal authorities recalled beef sold at Whole Foods stores in Newton and Weymouth.

Federal authorities on Friday announced three people were infected with E. coli that came from ground beef products sold at Whole Foods stores in Newton and Weymouth.

The discovery led to the recall of 368 pounds of beef sold at those stores in June. Find the recall list here.

Authorities did not identify the victims or say where they live.

E. coli is a potentially deadly bacterium that causes dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal cramps three-four days after exposure. Most people recover in a week.
