Ashwini Kulkarni (Class of 2015) Wins the 2015 Poetry Out Loud Competition at BHS

Senior Ashwini Kulkarni becomes the 7th BHS Poetry Out Loud Champion in the nine years of the competition.

On February 4, Senior Ashwini Kulkarni earned the top prize in the 9th annual Poetry Out Loud competition at Burlington High School with her performances of Life Cycle of Common Man by Howard Nemerov, and Zacuanpapalotls by Brenda Cardenas. In this contest, every BHS student has to memorize a poem and recite it for his or her class. The top 10% of the performances compete in a school wide semifinal, and the top eight performers battle it out to become the school’s Poet Laureate. Ashwini, in her first appearance in the finals in her four years at BHS, came out on top, and will represent BHS in the statewide semifinals on March 1 in Framingham. You can read more about the competition, and see a video of the finals on the BHS English Department website. Congratulations, Ashwini!
