9/11: We Must Never Forget
In just a few short days, we will reflect upon the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the most horrific day of my lifetime and many others I'm sure.
In just a few short days, we will reflect upon the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the most horrific day of my lifetime and many others I'm sure. I can recall where I was, who I was with and what happened minute by minute that faithful morning. I remember the disbelief, the panic and the surreal feeling as to whether or not what we witnessed was really happening.
Shortly thereafter, we all learned the gravity of the situation and the reality of how our world had changed in an instant. It is hard to put into words what 9/11 means to each one of us, especially to the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Certainly, the pain never goes away and for the families and loved ones, Sunday will just re-open those wounds.
Looking beyond the tragedy for just one moment, what has changed for Americans in the wake of 9/11 and are we safer today? Some argue we are much safer and others, not so much. Certainly, we have seen a flurry of changes at airports with the addition of TSA, safety checks, screening techniques, etc. Do you feel safer when you fly today verses prior to 9/11?
Working in the Security industry, I could list hundreds of items that I have seen change since 9/11 and the pro's and con's to each. Some are clearly a vast improvement of what we utilized prior to 9/11, while some are just a drain on time and money.
The intent of this newsletter is to highlight the people who were impacted most, the heroes of 9/11. Those who gave their life willingly and some who had it taken from them without warning. They are the ones we need to think about on Sunday, the ones who are no longer physically with us, but hopefully guide us from up above. The following link is a list of those who perished that terrible day. The list is long and it will take time to review them all, but we should all spend a few minute reflecting on the names and what that day really should mean. Never Forgetting!
CNN.Com List of 9/11 Victims
I would be remiss if I did not mention the other heroes from 9/11, the many police, firefighters, EMS, doctors, nurses and individuals who responded that day. I could not list all who responded and made a difference as the list would be enormous, but we all know who they are. They too have many scars and emotions to deal with come Sunday and we should help and honor all of them by taking a few moments to remember and say thank you. Personally, I thank all of you who are on that list, you are the living heroes of 9/11.
I know what Sunday will mean to me and we all must never forget!
