Burlington Mall Evacuated Due To Alarm, Gas Leak, Police Say [UPDATE]

Police issued a traffic advisory Wednesday morning, stating that there were "significant traffic delays."

BURLINGTON, MA — The Burlington Mall evacuated Wednesday morning due to an alarm and gas leak, according to police.

A traffic advisory was issued due to the evacuation.

The fire department received a report of "a construction incident" at the Burlington Mall at 8:50 a.m. Police also responded.

Crews determined that a forklift operating in the area of Nordstrom’s had struck a gas line, prompting crews to evacuate the mall, police said in a statement released early Wednesday afternoon.

National Grid was brought in to shut off gas to the building, which occurred at 10:40 a.m.

Fire crews and National Grid staff did a walkthrough of the mall. Meters did not detect any dangerous gases or gas levels, police said. The mall has since reopened.
