An automated Local Stream Burlington Patch post of the department’s social media posts congratulating the Newton Police Department’s new chief, caused a lot of confusion in the community and headaches for Burlington Police Chief Michael Kent this week.

Especially because the headline read, “Burlington Police Department Appoints New Chief.”

Newton Police tweeted and posted a photo of their new chief on Wednesday,”(L-R) Newly appointed Chief David MacDonald and retiring Chief Mintz. Best wishes and good luck to both of you!,” and Burlington Police tweeted, “Congrats on the promotion Chief MacDonald! Also, have a great retirement Chief Mintz. Wishing both the best of luck! “

When Patch’s automated Local Stream automatically pulled in the department’s message and photo. The erroneous headline appeared with the posts.
