Burlington Police Make Move To Temporary Station

Police will be at the temporary station until a new station is constructed, which is expected to take about two years.

BURLINGTON, MA — The Burlington Police Department has moved to a temporary station as construction on a new station has begun, according to a police statement.

The police station building project is expected to take two years. Construction began following the demolition of the old station at 45 Center St., which is expected to be completed by the end of January.

Police have been operating out of 171 Middlesex Turnpike for about two months. The site was previously a water treatment facility that had been renovated to allow full department operations while the new station is being built, the statement reads.

There are no temporary cells at the station. After the booking process, arrestees are taken to Lexington or the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office/Billerica House of Corrections.

Police said there has been no interruption of service and the department remains open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
