Burlington Science Teacher Wins 'Teacher Of The Year'

Sean Musselman works helps run the Burlington Science Center and was recognized for his work in the K-8 robotics program.

BURLINGTON, MA -- Sean Musselman was named outstanding science teacher of the year for Middlesex County at the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers conference this past weekend. Musselman is a K-5 science specialist and an elementary methods science instructor. MAST recognized Musselman for his role as the facilitator of the K-8 robotics programs and his role in Burlington curriculum development and implementation.

In a post on his blog, Musselman credited other people with helping him earn the award. "While the plaque reads 'Sean Musselman,' the application for me (submitted by my incredible partner-in-science-crime, Wendy Pavlicek) and every future “Teacher of the Year” will be a story of community and collaboration, people and partnerships, professional learning networks, critical friends groups, or whatever else you want to call them," he wrote.

Musselman is a 2006 graduate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he earnedand holds a Masters degree in Science Education from Cambridge College. Musselman is the president of the North Shore Science Supervisors Association of Massachusetts and a curator of resources for the National Science Teachers Association’s hub. He also teaches a hybrid elementary science methods course for Cambridge College.
