Burlington Will Hold Its First Diwali Tree Lighting Celebration Sunday

The festival marks the start of Diwali, the five-day festival of lights celebrated by many Indian Americans.

BURLINGTON, MA -- Burlington will hold its first ever tree lighting for Diwali on the Town Common on Sunday, October 15. The Indian Americans For Burlington, a community group that supports Burlington's growing Indian American community, received approval for the lighting and festival earlier this year from Burlington Selectmen.

Diwali is the five-day festival of lights celebrated worldwide by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. The fesitival coincides with Hindu New Year and is used to celebrate new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and lightness over dark.
