Company Wants to Open Pot Dispensary in Burlington
Nonprofit group Mission Massachusetts spoke with officials last week about opening a location in town.

A Worcester company is interested in opening a medical marijuana dispensary in Burlington, according to a Wicked Local report.
Mission Massachusetts was one of 96 dispensary applications the state received from nonprofit groups this year, the report stated. The application period ran from June 29 to July 7.

Town Administrator John Petrin revealed at Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting that Mission Massachusetts, which is a partnership between Forefront Ventures and the Winnmill Group, talked to town officials last week about opening one of three new medical marijuana dispensaries in Burlington, the report stated. The company also wants to open a dispensary in Worcester, as well as an undetermined third location, the report added.
The Burlington facility would only dispense medical marijuana; it would not be grown there, the report stated. Growing would be done in Worcester, the report added.

Massachusetts voters opened the door for medical marijuana in the state in 2013. Since then, 15 dispensaries have received state approval, but only one—in Salem—is open.
Town officials can’t stop companies from opening dispensaries in Burlington so long as they comply with state regulations and Burlington’s local medical marijuana bylaws, which are more restrictive than Massachusetts’s requirements, the report stated.

Officials now will hammer out a community agreement with Mission Massachusetts, and Burlington’s selectmen can vote on whether to send a letter of support to the governor’s office, the report added.
