MIDDLESEX COUNTY, MA — Massachusetts State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Middlesex County next weekend. The checkpoint will be from Friday, Sept. 8 into Saturday, Sept. 9.

The checkpoint will be somewhere across the county's 850 square miles. State police never disclose the exact location or times of checkpoints to maintain the element of surprise.

"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," state police wrote in a statement.
