BURLINGTON, MA — Nick Priest is running for Burlington Selectmen for the second straight year. And once again, Priest will be the lone challenger in a three-way race against two incumbents who are up for reelection. Priest submitted the following candidate announcement to Burlington Patch for publication:

My name is Nick Priest and I am running for the Board of Selectmen.

I wanted to take this opportunity to address the people of Burlington. On this Saturday, April 6th Burlington will hold its town election for this year, 2019. I don’t know how many folks will come down to the high school and cast their votes, but I do know that recent history says it will most likely be less than 3,000 people. As one of the people who currently represents you, the people of Burlington, through Ways & Means and Town Meeting–I, along with many other elected and appointed officials, remind folks to get out and vote. Each year roughly the same number of folks come out.

A great many things have changed though. Our lives our busier, companies are vying more for our attention than ever before, the digital world is evolving every day right in front of ours eyes, and that’s not even including the lack of civics education in our schools (though thankfully Gov. Baker signed a measure to start bringing that back into the fold).

With all this change though there holds a constant in our lives. Our local municipality. Now more than ever the people we choose as our elected officials must not only manage the day to day, they must find new and innovative ways of engaging our community, keeping residents up-to-date and well informed, and planning for a future where cost of living, walkability, sustainability, and technology are all factors of increasing importance to us all.

Being born and raised in Burlington and now raising our three children here with my wife Jenn I want to ensure that the Burlington of tomorrow is just as great as the Burlington I grew up with. I want to leverage my 10+ years of experience working in the communications and marketing fields to develop strategic plans that will set us up for continued success into the future, involve and engage the talented and intelligent people of Burlington, and do the best I possibly can for all of you.

I am honored and humbled to be considered for the position of Selectman and, if elected, will serve you faithfully every single day.

Respectfully,

Nick Priest
