'Esports Arena' Area 123 Opens At Burlington High School

The new space will also be a "innovative learning" and event space.

BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington's high school esports team, Red Devils Gaming, will have a home arena in the new year, with the open of Area 123. Oh, you didn't know there was a high school esports team? There is, and according to Dennis Villano of BPS EdTech, in 2020 they will be debut team competition.

Area 123, the new space at the high school, is also an "innovative learning" space, with professional development, events and Computer Science For All programming.

The esports team is currently a school club, and in the new year they will begin competing against local schools, and in national competitions through highschoolsportsleague.com, according to Villano. They play a variety of games including Madden, Rocket League, and MineCraft.

According to a post announcing the space's opening, education sessions and workshops will feature Burlington educators and outside presenters. Events will include visits from representatives local businesses. And as part of the CSforALL program, the space will host workshops and "maker events."
