Incumbents Win In Burlington Selectmen's Race
A last-minute write-in candidate shook -- but did not defeat -- incumbent School Committee Member Martha Simon.

BURLINGTON, MA -- Incumbents Joseph Morandi and Michael Runyan defeated challengers Virginia Mooney and Nicholas Priest in a four-way race for two open seats on the Burlington Board of Selectmen in Saturday's town election. In the only other contested, town-wide race, Kevin Sheehan and Ram Voruganti were elected to the board of library trustees, with Hiral Gandhi finishing third.
Of the candidates running unopposed for town wide office, no incumbent got fewer votes than School Committee member Martha Simon with 1,276. Simon also was challenged by write-in candidate Kim Milne, who received 260 votes despite not being listed on the ballot. Milne did not announce that she was running until the morning of the election.
There were also two contested races for town meeting representative. In Precinct One, incumbents Donna Gregorio, Michael Hardy, Mark Saia, Adam Senesi and David Woodilla, as well as newcomer William Boivin, were elected to three-year terms. Voruganti and Michael Espejo were the also-rans in that race.
