Man Calls 9-1-1 While Being Crushed In Burlington Recycling Truck

The man, who had been sleeping in a dumpster, was able to call 9-1-1 after he suffered severe injuries, including a broken back.

BURLINGTON, MA -- A man who was sleeping a dumpster behind the Market Basket on Middlesex Turnpike in Burlington was seriously injured when the contents of the dumpster were offloaded into a recycling truck. Burlington Police and Fire responded to the Nov. 16 9-1-1 call from the man, who told dispatchers he was unsure where he was. The man was transported to Lahey Hospital with multiple fractures on the left side of his body, including a broken back.

According to the Burlington Union, which first reported this story, removing the man from the truck proved difficult once the truck was located. With the man unable to move because of his injuries, rescue workers had to use ladders to climb into the truck and remove layers of cardboard the man was trapped under.
