Memorial Day In Burlington: What You Need To Know

Patch has all the details on Memorial Day Ceremonies, plus what's open and closed on the May 27th holiday.

BURLINGTON, MA -- Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day, and the town has several events scheduled. There will be a flag raising at 8 a.m. on the Town Common on Monday, followed by the Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. at Chestnut Hill Cemetery on Bedford Street. In the event of inclement weather, events will be moved to the Wooden Gym at Burlington High School.

There will also be a closing ceremony at the Park following Andover's Memorial Day parade. The parade begins at 10 am. For more information on all of the Memorial Day events, see the town's Memorial Day Web page.

What's Open And Closed On Memorial Day

The holiday also means government offices and some businesses will be closed. Before you head out, check our list of what's open and closed on the holiday

  • Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion
  • Subway, buses: Sunday schedule.
  • Supermarkets: Open
  • Convenience stores: Open
  • Bars: Open
  • Banks: Closed
  • Basically anything to do with municipal government: Closed
  • Libraries, see above: Closed
  • Schools: Closed
  • Mail: Express delivery only
  • Trash/recycling collection: Delayed one day. Monday pickup on Tuesday, Tuesday pickup on Wednesday, etc., ending with Friday pickup on Saturday.
