Middle School Instagram Prank Causes Stir In Burlington

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Eric Conti said there was never any real threat and that the students involved are being dealt with.

BURLINGTON, MA -- A group of Burlington Middle School students posted an anonymous photo on Instagram over the weekend of a fake pistol and a warning about attending school on Monday. Another student reported the photo to police, who were able to identify and interview the students involved and determine there was never a threat to the school or students, according to an email Superintendent Eric Conti sent to parents.

"We are working with the children involved. Please do not post their names or any other information you hear about this incident on public social media," Conti wrote. "If there are other important facts to share, we will send out another statement."

According to social media posts from parents, many students were unaware of the incidents. Parents posting on various community forums said when they asked their children about the incident after receiving Conti's email, it was the first time they had heard about the incident.
