Murphy thanks Burlington Voters for Past Support and asks for Continued Support for his Re-Election to School Committee
Local Election in Burlington - April 9th. Tom Murphy, Burlington School Committee, seeks re-election and thanks voters for support
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to formally announce my candidacy for re-election to the Burlington School Committee. I am a lifelong resident of Burlington and my wife Ginny and I have four children, all of whom attended Burlington schools.
As a current member of the School Committee, I have earned a reputation for being a responsible, level headed, hard-working, independent and valuable member of the committee. My community and civic involvement has included 7 years as a Town Meeting Member and many years as a coach in the Pop Warner program, Burlington Baseball and Softball program, and the Burlington Recreation Basketball program.
Many positive developments have taken place in the School Department during my tenure on the Committee. Our school system is nationally recognized by Apple and other organizations for its integration of technology in the curriculum. Our high school is a Tier 1 rated school by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) recognizes us as a leader of positive and proactive change in the accreditation process. Furthermore our facilities are well maintained and our budgets consistently meet town guidelines. Every year our graduates move on to the most competitive colleges and ultimately enter the work force successfully.

In my opinion, providing a strong public school system is one of the most essential services offered by any city or town – it is important to every resident, whether they have children in the schools or not. It is crucial to the children’s future and it is also crucial to maintaining the value of our homes and our community.
I am running because it is vital to have responsible and experienced leadership on the School Committee. I am running because I enjoy serving and, as my track record shows, I deliver positive results for our schools and for the Town of Burlington.

The Burlington School District continues to operate as a high performing school system, yet it is always striving to improve. I look forward to continuing my work on the School Committee and continuing to help move the system forward. I appreciate the support that the Town’s voters have given me over the years and I ask for one of your two votes on April 9.
