Northeastern Proposes Massive New Building For Burlington Campus

The Burlington Planning Board will hear more about the project when it meets on February 15.

BURLINGTON, MA -- Northeastern University is planning a three-story, 104,000-square-foot building on its Burlington campus. The building would be part of the campus's George J. Kostas Research Institute for Homeland Security and include a 150' by 200' foot net attached to the building for research the institute is doing with drones and other homeland defense technologies.

The Daily Times Chronicle, which first reported this story, said members of the Burlington planning board raised concerns about traffic and water drainage when Northeastern presented the project during a public hearing. The board will continue its hearing on the project at its meeting scheduled for Feb. 15.

"It is great to see Northeastern University being so active in the community and making the effort to restore that site," planning board member Joe Impemba said. "Northeastern University’s reputation has gone through the roof [in recent years]. It is a phenomenal institution."
