Report: Troopers 'Running Ragged' With Bomb Incidents

According to the Boston Globe, there have been a large number of scares and copycat incidents in the month following the Boston Marathon bombings, including Burlington and Woburn.

Bomb related incidents in Burlington and Woburn earlier this month are just the latest examples of a statewide increase in Boston Marathon copycat cases, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

On June 6, Adam Crane allegedly made a pipe bomb and detonated it on Elm Street in Woburn and another the previous week at the Mill Pond Reservoir in Burlington.

The Elm Street bomb caused response from the Northeast Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT team and other law enforcement officials.

Crane, 24, could spend at least 2 1/2 years in prison, according to the Globe report. The newspaper also added that that Cambridge officials fielded 215 calls for unattended or suspicious packages between April 15 and June 6. According to the report, the city fielded just 77 reports in the same time period in 2012.

On official told The Globe that police are "running ragged" due to the amount of calls they are receiving.

“Everything has become more suspicious,” said State Police Sergeant Paul Horgan, according to the Boston Globe. And “there are people jumping on this bandwagon who like to cause mayhem. They’re taking advantage of this situation to continue to put the fear in people.”
