Sears Closing Burlington Mall Location

The store is just one of three remaining from the mall's original 52 tenants when it opened in 1968.

BURLINGTON, MA -- Sears Holdings will close its location at the Burlington Mall in early April. The store is one of 39 Sears stores and 64 Kmart stores the company plans to close. Employees were told about the closings Thursday.

The Sears at the Burlington Mall is one of the mall's original tenants. Just two other stores from the original 52 that leased space when the mall opened in 1968 remain. The other two are Ann Taylor and Spencer's Gifts.

Sears has been closing unprofitable stores as its focuses on pivoting to become an online retailer. Workers who lose their jobs may be eligible for severance and can apply for other positions at stores within the company. Liquidation sales will begin at all of the closing stores as early as January 12.
