Should Kohls Be Allowed to Stay Open 24-Hours?

Retailer asked selectmen for permission to just that this holiday season as first business to request license approved by May Town Meeting.

Back in May, Burlington Town Meeting members approved special licenses to allow retailers to stay open longer -- a full 24 hours. The approval of the 24-hour bylaw allows retailers, by special permit to apply to extend their store hours on a limited and temporary basis to conduct business 24 hours a day. The Board of Selectmen would have to approve these requests.

Last week selectmen had their first request - from Kohl’s Department Store - the first business in town to apply for this special 24-hour license since it was approved by Town Meeting.

Lisa Smith, store manager of the Burlington Kohls was before selectmen last week requesting extended hours for eight days during the holiday season, the Daily Times Chronicle reported.
