Update Provided On Burlington Electric Substation Project

Eversource staff have been meeting local stakeholders in Burlington, Woburn, and Wilmington in recent months.

BURLINGTON, MA — A proposed project dubbed the Woburn Supply Initiative Project involves building a new electric substation in Burlington, according to the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce.

The proposal also includes installing additional overhead electric transmission lines and associated underground electric distribution lines in local streets. The project is intended to keep up with growing demand.

Eversource staff have been meeting local stakeholders in Burlington, Woburn, and Wilmington in recent months to review the project. Eversource provided an update on the project at a chamber meeting Jan. 29.

The chamber said there will "additional community conversations where people can learn more about the project."

The project would include the construction of a new electric substation in Burlington on about two acres of property that Eversource owns off of Winn Street, according to Eversource.

There would also be about 2.5 miles of new overhead transmission line and supporting structures would be installed in the existing rights-of-way running from the proposed new substation in Burlington through Wilmington into Woburn.
