Winning Bid For Burlington Fire Station Is $1.6M Under Budget
The winning bid to build Fire Station #2 Was $6.86 million, well below the $8.5 million the own had budgeted for construction.

BURLINGTON, MA -- Castagna Construction Corp.'s bid of $6.86 million to build a new fire station Burlington was chosen by selectmen this week. The bid from the company, which has locations in Melrose, Newburyport and Londonderry, N.H., was not only the lowest of all bids submitted, but $1.6 million below the $8.5 million the town had expected to spend to build Fire Station 2 on the corner of Terrace Hall Avenue and Middlesex Turnpike.
The contract officially began on Tuesday, according to the Daily Times Chronicle, and Castagna has 14 months to complete the project. The new, 15,000-square-foot fire station will have three bays and be built on the existing on the same site as the existing station. The current station was built in 1971; the contractor that one the bid to demolish it is in the process of applying for a demolition permit.
Replacing the station has been an issue for several years in Burlington. Two years ago Town Meeting approved the plan to build a new station.

"It is a longtime coming," Selectman Michael Runyan, a Burlington firefighter, said. "It is great to be able to move forward with this project."
