Cambridge Breakfast Spot Closing After 20 Years

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A national breakfast chain that has served Harvard Square for about two decades is shutting down.

IHOP has closed its restaurant at 16 Eliot St. in Cambridge. Franchisee Mark Justice confirmed to Patch that the restaurant would close, adding that customers can still visit the IHOP at 1850 Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.

The eatery, best known for its extensive menu of pancakes and breakfast combos, did not share a reason for the location's closure.

“Our IHOP restaurant at 16 Eliot St., Cambridge, MA is closing,” Justice wrote in a statement sent to Patch. “We greatly appreciate our neighbors' patronage for the past 20 years and look forward to continuing to serve them at our location on 1850 Soldiers Field Road, in Brighton, MA.”

The restaurant closed in early July, with a sign posted outside the location announcing the closure, which was first reported by Boston Restaurant Talk.

There are 20 other IHOP locations in Massachusetts, with some nearby in Brighton, Braintree and Dedham.
